Amazing as it sounds, retailer fines now exceed the cost of distribution labor in some grocery suppliers. Grocers want what they want in the quantities they want on the day they want it. They rightly claim that the shelf may stock out if they don’t have it. The bigger problem, however, is not always the supplier’s reliability but the grocer’s ability to get the product from the back room to the shelf.
