Trucking…Ocean…Package

Trucking:
  • Driver shortfall:  80,000
  • Parts shortage is forcing some carriers to cannibalize some trucks to get other vehicles running
  • LTL carrier Old Dominion getting 10.1% more per cwt this year than last – and that excludes the impact of fuel

Ocean:
  • Trans-Pacific container “Spot prices” fell 25% last week
  • Too few clean fuels:  Supplies of methanol and ammonia – two cleaner-burning alternatives to bunker oil – are too limited to power the world’s 60,000 oceangoing vessels

Package:
  • The U.S. Postal Service lost nearly $5 billion in the year ending Sept. 30, as revenue rose 5.3% and package volume increased 3.5%. (Reuters)
