What is the difference between Uber drivers and Owner operators

Effective Jan. 1, California law reclassifies most independent contractors as full-time employees.  For example, Uber drivers are now employees.  What is the difference between Uber drivers and Owner operators?  Nothing!

 [This bill]  “will put tens of thousands of owner-operator truckers, who service agriculture, retail, and other industry sectors, out of business,” said the California Trucking Association.  One of the key tests for somebody to be truly an independent contractor is ”that the worker performs work that is outside the usual course of the hiring entity’s business.”  I think this extends to the warehouse – making it hard to use labor leasing companies.
